How to calculate your GPA
- Convert each letter grade to grade points using the scale below.
- Multiply the grade points by the course's credit hours.
- Add up the results and divide by your total credit hours.
GPA = Σ (grade points × credits) ÷ Σ credits
Example
An A in a 4-credit course (4.0 × 4 = 16), a B+ in a 3-credit course (3.3 × 3 = 9.9) and a B in a 3-credit
course (3.0 × 3 = 9) give 34.9 grade points over 10 credits, a GPA of 3.49.

How is GPA calculated?
Each letter grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, B = 3.0 and so on). Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, and divide by the total number of credit hours.
What's the difference between semester and cumulative GPA?
Semester GPA covers only the courses from one term. Cumulative GPA covers every course you've taken. To update your cumulative GPA, enter your current GPA and total credits in the optional fields.
Is an A+ worth more than 4.0?
At most US colleges an A+ counts as 4.0, the same as an A. Some schools give 4.33. This calculator uses 4.0; check your school's scale if it uses A+ = 4.33.
Do pass/fail courses count toward GPA?
Usually not. Pass/fail courses earn credits but no grade points, so leave them out of this calculator. Courses you failed (F) normally do count, with 0 points.
What is a good GPA?
A 3.0 (B average) is often the minimum for scholarships and graduate programs, 3.5 and above is considered strong, and many honor societies require 3.5–3.7.
