Reading out a long Wi-Fi password to guests gets old fast. A Wi-Fi QR code lets anyone join your network by pointing their phone's camera at it. No typing, no typos.
How to create a Wi-Fi QR code
- Open the QR code generator and choose Wi-Fi network.
- Enter your network name (SSID) exactly as it appears, including capital letters and spaces.
- Enter the password and choose the security type. Most home networks use WPA/WPA2/WPA3.
- Download the code as PNG to print, or SVG for sharp printing at any size.
The code is created in your browser, so your Wi-Fi password is never sent to a server, and the code never expires.
Where to find your network name and password
- On the sticker on your router, if you never changed them.
- On a Mac: System Settings › Wi-Fi › ⋯ next to your network › Copy Password.
- On Windows 11: Settings › Network & internet › Wi-Fi › Manage known networks, choose the network, then “View Wi-Fi security key”.
- On iPhone (iOS 16 and later): Settings › Wi-Fi, tap ⓘ next to the network and tap the password.
Test it before you print
Forget the network on your own phone, then scan the code with the camera app. It should offer to join straight away. If it doesn't, check the network name and password for typos and the security type.
Ideas for using it
- A small framed card in the living room or guest room.
- On the counter in a café, salon or office reception.
- In a holiday rental's welcome guide.
Security tip: anyone who can see the code can join your network. For visitors, consider setting up a separate guest network on your router and making the code for that.
