How to count the days between two dates
Pick a start date and an end date. The calculator shows the number of days between them, plus the same
span in weeks, in years, months and days, and how many of those days are working days. It's handy for
deadlines, notice periods, travel, pregnancies, projects and countdowns.
Including or excluding the end date
From Monday to Friday of the same week is 4 days if you count the days in between, the
way you'd count nights in a hotel. If you count every calendar day in the range, as you would for an
event or a leave request, it's 5 days. Use the “Counting” option to choose.
Counting working days
Working days count every Monday to Friday in the range. Weekends are excluded automatically. Public
holidays are not removed, because they depend on your country, so subtract them yourself if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator include the end date?
By default it counts the days between the two dates, which doesn't include the end date (like counting nights in a hotel stay). Choose “Include end date” if you want to count both the first and the last day, for example for an event that runs from Monday to Friday.
How are working days counted?
Working days are Monday to Friday. Weekends are excluded, but public holidays are not, because they differ between countries and regions. Subtract any holidays that fall in your range.
How many days are in a year?
A common year has 365 days and a leap year has 366. Leap years happen every 4 years, except years divisible by 100 but not by 400. So 2000 was a leap year, but 1900 was not.
Can I count days into the past?
Yes. If the end date is before the start date, the calculator still shows the number of days between them and notes that the range runs backwards.
