How to convert salary to hourly pay

Enter your pay and choose whether it's per hour, day, week, month or year. The calculator converts it into every other pay period using your real working hours, so you can compare job offers, a salaried role with an hourly contract, or full-time with part-time work.

The formulas

  • Yearly salary = hourly wage × hours per week × weeks per year
  • Hourly wage = yearly salary ÷ (hours per week × weeks per year)
  • Monthly pay = yearly salary ÷ 12
  • Weekly pay = yearly salary ÷ weeks per year

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert an annual salary to an hourly wage?

Divide the yearly salary by the number of hours you work in a year. With 40 hours a week and 52 paid weeks, that's 2,080 hours, so a $50,000 salary is about $24.04 an hour.

How many working hours are in a year?

A full-time job of 40 hours a week for 52 weeks is 2,080 hours. If you take two weeks of unpaid time off, use 50 weeks (2,000 hours). Paid vacation doesn't change the calculation, because you're still paid for those weeks.

What's the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?

Biweekly means every two weeks, which gives 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly means twice a month, usually on fixed dates, which gives 24 paychecks. Each biweekly paycheck is slightly smaller.

Are these amounts before or after tax?

They're gross amounts, before taxes and deductions. Your take-home pay will be lower depending on income tax, social security and any benefits deducted from your pay.
