How to merge PDF files on Windows, Mac, iPhone and Android

The quickest ways to combine PDFs into one file on every device, without installing anything or uploading private documents.

Combining several PDFs into one file makes them easier to email, upload and print. Every major platform can do it, but the built-in options are often hidden. Here are the fastest methods for each device.

Any device: merge in your browser

Our Merge PDF tool works the same on Windows, Mac, iPhone, iPad, Android and Chromebook. Add your files, drag them into order with the arrows, and download one combined PDF. The files are combined inside your browser, so contracts, bank statements and ID scans are never uploaded to a server.

Mac: use Preview

  1. Open the first PDF in Preview and choose View › Thumbnails.
  2. Drag the other PDF files from Finder into the thumbnail sidebar, where you want them to appear.
  3. Choose File › Export as PDF to save the combined document.

Or select the files in Finder, right-click, and choose Quick Actions › Create PDF.

iPhone and iPad: use the Files app

  1. Open the Files app and go to the folder with your PDFs.
  2. Tap Select (in the ⋯ menu) and choose the files in the order you want them combined.
  3. Tap ⋯ in the bottom corner and choose Create PDF.

Windows: no built-in merge

Windows can print to PDF but can't merge existing PDFs on its own. Use a browser-based tool like ours, or a desktop app such as the free PDF24 Creator. Avoid tools that upload your files if the documents are private.

Android

Android has no built-in merge either. Open the Merge PDF tool in Chrome, pick the files from your phone's storage or Google Drive, and download the result.
