How to blur faces in a photo

  1. Choose your photo. Faces are found and blurred automatically.
  2. Pick the effect: blur, pixelate, a solid box or an emoji.
  3. Click a face to leave it sharp, or drag over anything else you want to hide, like a number plate or a name tag.
  4. Download the photo. Location and camera data from the original aren't included.

Frequently asked questions

How does automatic face blurring work?

An AI face detector (YuNet) finds the faces in your photo and blurs them. It runs in your browser, so your photo is never uploaded. Check the result before you share it: click a face to keep it sharp, and drag over any face that was missed to blur it too.

Can a blurred face be un-blurred?

A light blur can sometimes be partly reversed. For anything sensitive, use Strong blur, Pixelate or a solid box, which remove the detail completely.

Does it remove the photo's location and camera data?

Yes. The downloaded photo is a new image, so the location, date and camera information stored in the original isn't copied into it.

Which photos work best?

Faces that are clearly visible and at least about 15 pixels wide are found most reliably. Faces turned away, covered or very small may be missed, which is why you can add your own areas.
