The classic passage
“Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore
magna aliqua.” It's a jumbled version of a line from Cicero that roughly begins, “Nor is there anyone who loves
pain itself…”. The words were scrambled long ago, so they don't form real sentences, which is exactly what makes
them good placeholder text.

Frequently asked questions
What is lorem ipsum?
Lorem ipsum is scrambled Latin placeholder text, based on a passage from Cicero's “On the Ends of Good and Evil” (45 BC). Designers have used it since the 1500s to fill layouts, because it looks like real text without distracting readers with meaning.
Why use placeholder text instead of real text?
It lets you judge the layout, typography and spacing before the final copy is ready, and it stops reviewers from getting sidetracked by the wording.
Can I get the text as HTML?
Yes. Choose “HTML paragraphs” to wrap each paragraph in <p> tags, ready to paste into a web page or template.
Is the text the same every time?
The first sentence can start with the classic “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…”, and the rest is randomly generated from Latin words, so every batch is different.
