How to upscale an image

  1. Choose 2× or 4× and the format to save in.
  2. Choose your image. The AI model is downloaded the first time (5 MB).
  3. Drag the slider to compare a normal resize with the AI result, then download.

Frequently asked questions

How does the AI image upscaler work?

It uses Real-ESRGAN, an AI model trained to rebuild fine detail, so edges stay sharp and textures look natural instead of blurry or blocky like a normal resize. It runs in your browser: the 5 MB model is downloaded once and your image is never uploaded.

Should I choose 2× or 4×?

2× is best for most uses: printing a small photo larger, a sharper profile picture, or an old image for a website. 4× gives the biggest result for small images such as icons, thumbnails or screenshots.

Why does it take a while?

The image is processed in small squares on your device's processor. A 500×500 image takes around 20 to 40 seconds on a recent laptop and longer on phones. The progress bar shows how far along it is.

Is there a size limit?

The result can be up to about 16 megapixels, which is the largest image all browsers can handle. Bigger images are reduced to fit before upscaling, and you'll see a note when that happens.
