Frequently asked questions
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep “Keep aspect ratio” turned on. The image is then scaled to fit inside the width and height you enter, so its proportions stay the same. You can also fill in just the width or just the height.
What size should images be for websites and social media?
For websites, 1200–2000 pixels wide is usually plenty. Common social sizes are 1080 × 1080 for Instagram posts, 1200 × 630 for link previews on Facebook and LinkedIn, and 1600 × 900 for X (Twitter).
Can I make an image bigger?
Yes, but enlarging can't add detail that isn't there, so large increases look soft or blurry. Enlarging by up to about 150% usually looks fine.
Does resizing reduce file size?
Yes, often dramatically. Halving the width and height leaves a quarter of the pixels, so the file is typically around a quarter of the size.
