Frequently asked questions
Why convert PNG to JPG?
JPG files are usually much smaller than PNG for photos, which makes them faster to upload, email and load on websites. Many forms and services also only accept JPG.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG doesn't support transparency, so transparent parts of the PNG are filled with white. If you need to keep transparency, stay with PNG or use WEBP.
Which quality setting should I use?
85–90% is a good balance: the image looks the same as the original but is much smaller. Go lower for the smallest files, or use 100% when quality matters most.
Should screenshots and logos be JPG?
Usually not. Images with sharp edges and text, like screenshots, logos and diagrams, look best as PNG. JPG is best for photos.
