Frequently asked questions
Which languages and voices are available?
The voices come from your device and browser, so the choice varies. Chrome and Edge include many natural-sounding online voices; iPhone, Mac and Android include voices for dozens of languages. You can add more voices in your device's accessibility or language settings.
Can I download the speech as an MP3?
Not directly: browsers don't let websites record the voices they speak with. To save the audio, use your device's screen or sound recorder while it plays, for example with our voice recorder and the system audio option.
Is there a length limit?
No practical limit. Long texts are read sentence by sentence, and you can pause, resume or stop at any time.
Is my text sent anywhere?
Device voices work offline and keep your text on your device. Some browsers' online voices (for example the “Online (Natural)” voices in Edge or “Google” voices in Chrome) send the text to that company's speech service to create the audio.
