Frequently asked questions
What is ASCII art?
A picture made of letters and symbols: darker parts use dense characters like @ and #, lighter parts use dots and spaces. It works anywhere text works, such as code comments, chats and old-school terminals.
How do I get a good result?
Photos with a clear subject and strong contrast work best. Try more characters across for detail, raise the contrast, or switch to “Invert” for light text on a dark background.
Can I keep the colours?
Yes. Choose “In colour” and download a PNG picture, where each character keeps the colour of that part of the photo. Text copies are always plain characters.
Is my photo uploaded?
No. The photo is turned into characters in your browser.
