How to beautify code
- Pick JavaScript, CSS or HTML, and paste your code. Minified code works too.
- Choose the indent you use, then Beautify.
- Copy the result, or download it as a file.
Going the other way? The code minifier makes JavaScript, CSS and HTML as small as possible. For JSON, use the JSON formatter, and for SQL the SQL formatter.
Frequently asked questions
What does a code beautifier do?
It re-indents and spaces out code so it's easy to read: one statement per line, blocks indented, and consistent spacing around operators and braces. It doesn't change what the code does.
Can it un-minify code?
Yes. Paste minified JavaScript, CSS or HTML and it's laid out again. Variable names that a minifier shortened (like a, b, c) can't be restored, but the structure becomes readable.
Which settings can I change?
Indent size (2 or 4 spaces, or tabs), whether to put opening braces on their own line in JavaScript and CSS, and how many blank lines to keep.
Is my code uploaded?
No. Beautifying runs in your browser with js-beautify, an open-source library.
